Organizations and programs for IMGs
International medical graduates (IMGs) are always encouraged to contact the medical regulatory authority in the province or territory in which they would like to practise. They should also contact the international medical graduate program in the province they would like to practise, if such a program exists. We have included links to these organizations below.
National organizations
The Canadian Resident Matching Service is a not-for-profit organization that works in close cooperation with the medical education community, medical schools and residents/students to provide an electronic application service and a computer match for entry into postgraduate medical training throughout Canada.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is the national professional association for specialty medicine in Canada. With more than 42,000 specialists, the Royal College is dedicated to setting the highest standards in postgraduate medical education, including lifelong learning, and to promoting sound health policy.
The College of Family Physicians of Canada is the national voice of the specialty of family medicine in Canada. The Federal Government Charter issued in 1954 granted the CFPC the authority to accredit training and establish the standards for life-long education for its family physician members, now numbering almost 22,000 across Canada. The CFPC’s mission is to improve the health of Canadians by promoting high standards of medical education and care in family practice, contributing to public understanding of healthful living, supporting ready access to family physician services, and encouraging research and disseminating knowledge about family medicine.
