The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) is committed to ensuring the highest level of medical care for Canadians through excellence in evaluation of physicians. This commitment is a promise not only to the Canadian public but also to our stakeholder organizations and to the physicians we assess both in Canada and internationally.
Our commitment to quality and service extends to everything we do including developing, administering and evaluating our examinations, registering examination candidates from across the country and across the world, and maintaining the Canada Medical Register, in which medical graduates are inscribed when they fulfill our requirements and are awarded the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada.
In partnership with government, regulatory agencies, faculties of medicine and other assessment organizations, the Medical Council created a national credentials repository for physician documents, and has been coordinating the development of a National Assessment Collaboration. This collaboration will provide a common and more effective assessment of international medical graduates, enabling them to integrate into the Canadian health care system. Additionally, we support research and development in the field of medical education evaluation to ensure that we remain at the forefront of innovation in assessment.
In Canada’s demanding and complex health care system, the need to assure the public of physicians’ competence is paramount. Practices and policies within the health assessment field are under constant scrutiny and MCC has risen to this challenge.
As the Executive Director, I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this dynamic organization and I look forward to our continued success in fulfilling our responsibility to Canadians while seeking new ways of achieving excellence in the field of medical evaluation.
Sincerely,
M. Ian Bowmer, MD, CM, FRCPC
