Postdoctoral Fellow Program - Internal

Deadline: Closed

New Ph.D. graduates from measurement, evaluation, medical education programs, or related programs but with an interest in medical education often need a year or two of practical experience in order to hone their trade/skills before embarking upon a full-time career. The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) is looking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to complete a 12 to 24-month fellowship in Ottawa. The goals of this fellowship are to provide training in assessment within the context of high-stakes examinations and to help the Fellow further develop research skills in assessment. Upon completion of the fellowship, the incumbent should be better prepared for their career, hopefully within the medical community, thus enriching the community as a whole.

The MCC would contribute $48,000 per year toward the Fellow’s salary. This position would also include benefits. In addition, the MCC would contribute $2,000 per year to be used for travel/housing for the Fellow to venues where peer-reviewed papers or academic presentations were being made by the Fellow (preferably within, but not restricted to, North America.) In addition, the Fellow would become a member of a virtual network of experts which could assist them with measurement and research problems and/or issues arising during their fellowship tenure.

A suitable candidate must hold a Ph.D./Ed.D. (or equivalent) by 1 July 2009 or have a letter from their Dean or Supervisor with the assurance the postdoctoral candidate would be defending their dissertation by October 2009.

This will be the MCC’s second post-doctorate position and the MCC is looking forward to integrating this position into its business plan with an eye toward giving new doctorate graduates in measurement and evaluation practical experience with a world-class organization doing high-stakes testing. This environment will be conducive to furthering the incumbent’s career in measurement and evaluation.

To apply for this position, a letter expressing interest complete with CV should be submitted to the Manager of Human Resources at hr@mcc.ca by 1 April 2009. Questions regarding this posting should be sent to the MCC care of the Research and Development Directorate (grants@mcc.ca.)
