Acceptable identification documents

If you are a Canadian resident or permanent resident and do not have a valid (unexpired) passport, a certified copy of one of the following is acceptable for identification:

  • Canadian citizenship certificate (card format only); or
  • Canadian permanent resident card; or
  • Canadian birth certificate* and Canadian driver’s license (these can only be submitted in combination and both must be certified).

*Your birth certificate must show your current legal name. If your name has changed since birth, a certified copy of your marriage certificate or other legal name change document must accompany the birth certificate.

Please note that if you are not a Canadian resident or permanent resident, you must submit a certified copy of a valid (unexpired) passport.

The MCC reserves the right to request additional identification.
