Rescoring with the candidate present at the MCC’s office

Candidates who have failed the MCCEE or MCCQE Part I can request to be present and/or have a duly appointed representative present during their rescoring. The fee for this service is $400 CAD.

Upon receipt of your written request and credit card payment, an appointment in Ottawa is arranged at a mutually agreeable time. During the rescoring session, you will see the keyed responses you provided to the examination questions and the correct answer key. You will not have access to the examination questions or content of the examination.

During the rescoring session, the following actions are taken:

  • A representative of the MCC explains to you the process and steps to be followed for the rescore of your examination. You are asked to confirm receiving this explanation of the process and steps for the rescore of your examination and that you agree to follow them.
  • You are shown your examination data file that includes the keyed responses you provided and that were recorded for each examination question you were presented during your examination
  • You are shown the corresponding correct answer key for each examination question you were presented during the examination
  • You then rescore your examination by comparing your keyed responses to the correct answer key for each question you were presented during your examination and by keeping count of the number of questions you answered correctly
  • You are provided with a description of the scoring system used for the examination that is based on item response theory (IRT). You are shown the IRT value for each examination question and the calculation of your IRT total score.
  • You are shown the mathematical formula used to convert IRT scores into standard scores (scores transformed for reporting purposes). Your IRT total score is converted into a standard score.
  • You compare the resulting standard score obtained from rescoring with the standard score that was reported to you in the Statement of Results
  • The MCC representative completes the Rescore Session Report confirming that the steps of the rescoring are all completed and the result obtained
  • You and the MCC representative sign the report and you are provided a copy. You are advised that this last step concludes the rescoring session.
