Source verification requirement

For eligibility to the MCCQE Part II, all candidates must have had their diploma successfully source verified regardless of when they took the MCCEE or the MCCQE Part I.

Candidates can check their diploma source verification status through their MCC-Online account:

Source verification is the process used by the Medical council of Canada (MCC) and the Physician Credentials Registry of Canada (PCRC), a division of the MCC, to verify documents with the appropriate institution that issued the documents. The MCC and PCRC use the services of the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) for source verification.

  • From your account, place your cursor over Personal on the top menu bar; click on Information in the drop-down menu.
  • This will take you to your “Basic Information” page where you will be able to see your “Source Verified” status.
  • If you are “Source Verified – Yes,” you will see that the diploma (or acceptable alternate(s)) has been verified.
  • If you are “Source Verified – No,” you will see the reason; e.g., the verification is pending, etc.
  • If you are “Source Verified – No,” and you do not see a reason, please submit a Diploma Source Verification Request Form*.
  • A “Source Verified – Yes” status is required for application to the MCCQE Part II.  The online application system will not allow a “Source Verified – No” candidate to proceed with submitting an MCCQE Part II application.

Candidates Whose Diploma Source Verification is in Progress: If your diploma (or acceptable alternate(s)) has been sent to your university for verification but the verification is pending, you are required to wait for the verification to be completed and for a “Source Verified – Yes” status before applying to the MCCQE Part II. You may want to consider contacting your university of graduation to try to expedite the verification process.

Candidates Repeating the MCCQE Part II:  Candidates who were previously accepted to the MCCQE Part II and who were not successful on the examination are not eligible to re-apply for the MCCQE Part II if they do not have a status of “Source Verified – Yes”.
