Student eligibility for the MCC Qualifying Examination Part I

Student eligibility with confirmation of expected graduation date

The MCCQE Part I is intended to be taken upon graduation from medical school.

However, in order to accommodate various circumstances that influence student graduation dates, it has been the MCC's practice to allow students to take the MCCQE Part I prior to graduation, with confirmation of the expected graduation date.

Deadline dates for students

Your “expected graduation date” is the date you are expected to complete all requirements to graduate. This date will determine student eligibility to apply to the MCCQE Part I:

  • Spring session – You are expected to complete all requirements to graduate no later than November 30 of the same calendar year.
  • E.g., if you are applying for the Spring 2012 examination, you must be expected to complete all requirements to graduate no later than November 30, 2012.
  • Fall session – You are expected to complete all requirements to graduate no later than March 30 of the following calendar year.
  • E.g., if you are applying for the Fall 2012 examination, you must be expected to complete all requirements to graduate no later than March 30, 2013.

These dates are firm and cannot be extended.

Students completing all requirements to graduate after the above dates must wait to apply for a later session of the MCCQE Part I.

Note: With the exception of Canadian medical students whose examination eligibility and graduation are confirmed directly with their medical school, all other student applicants must submit the Dean’s Attestation Form (see MCCQE Part I Application Steps) to confirm eligibility for the examination, as well as submit a certified copy of their final medical diploma (with translation, if applicable) upon graduation in order for it to be sent for source verification. Source verification of the diploma is required for eligibility to apply to the MCCQE Part II.
