Research and development
In order to achieve the highest standard of medical care for Canadians, the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) has a strong commitment to research and development, and is engaged in many supporting activities including:
Research
- Providing support to a variety of groups and individuals
- Funded support for original research through research and development grants
- Funded support for students in graduate and postdoctoral programs and individuals in faculty development positions
- Managing data requests for outcome studies
Development
- Designing new tools to assess and evaluate physicians in clinical practice
- Developing new examinations including the creation of the new, computer-based Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination
Facilitation
- Liaising with sister organizations, presenting at conferences, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals
- Consulting in areas of research, development and psychometrics
- Production of the Report of the Dean and other special reports
National Collaborations
- Developing a working definition of ‘professionalism’ to be used in guiding MCC objective writing and test development
- Proposing a list that accurately reflects professionalism and can be measured and scored through examination material
National Assessment Collaboration
- Developing a set of standardized assessment tools that can be used by provincial programs in the selection of international medical graduates (IMGs) for post-graduate training and for assessing practice readiness
