Welcome to the Online Version of the Objectives for the Qualifying Examination
The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) Objectives for the Qualifying Examination identify attributes expected of medical graduates entering supervised and independent practice in Canada. The MCC Objectives have been defined in behavioural terms and reflect the MCC’s expectations of competent physicians.
The Objectives are updated on an ongoing basis. In 2009, the MCC reclassified the Objectives based on physicians’ roles as defined by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons’ CanMEDS (Canadian Medical Education Directives for Specialists) roles framework. This classification features the roles of communicator, collaborator, health advocate, manager, scholar, professional, and expert. Users can access the full clinical presentation list for each physician role by clicking on the roles listed at the top of the screen. Under each presentation is a set of learning objectives that lay out exactly what a candidate would need to know to pass the MCC examinations. The 2009 edition of the Objectives for the Qualifying Examination now include the C2LEO (Considerations of the Cultural-Communication, Legal, Ethical and Organizational Aspects of the Practice of Medicine) Objectives. On an ongoing basis, each newly revised objective will have the date of the update listed beside it. To view the list of the most recently updated objectives, visit the Expert section.
The links at the left provide access to more information on the Objectives. The menu at the top of your screen will remain accessible at all times. Use it to jump to the main sections of the Objectives. "Home" will return you to this page. The arrows will move you back and forward.
The first line of the top menu in turquoise presents the main navigation sections of the Objectives: Home, Table of Contents, Search, Advanced Search, Normal Values, Glossary and Help.
The second line of the top menu in burgundy presents the main content sections of the Objectives, organized by role: Professional, Communicator, Scholar, Manager, Collaborator, Health Advocate and Expert. The Objective presentations may be accessed through Expert or through the Table of Contents.
We hope you find this product useful.
CLEO and C2LEO Objectives
The CLEO (Considerations of Legal, Ethical and Organizational Aspects of the Practice of Medicine) Objectives and the C2LEO (Considerations of the Cultural-Communication, Legal, Ethical and Organizational Aspects of the Practice of Medicine) Objectives have been incorporated into the updated Medical Council of Canada Objectives for the Qualifying Examination. The CLEO and C2LEO Objectives can still be viewed independently of the Objectives for the Qualifying Examination until early 2010, after which they will only be accessible through the Objectives.
